The French city of Rouen has played a major part in the two world wars. During he Great War the city was behind the front lines and was a safe location for for a number of hospitals. No8 located south to the town was one of the largest but was somewhat isolated.
There are two Commonwealth War Grave cemeteries- St.Sever and Bois-Guillaume, these were used for the hospital burials.
These photos belonged to L. Allen. This is could be Lilian Allen from Gateacre, Liverpool. She was aged 33 when she enlisted. She began service on 5 August 1915 as a Red Cross VAD, serving in in the Military Hospitals in France. She was mentioned in dispatches on 15 May 1917 and was still serving in 1919.
