The Connaught Hospital. North Camp. Aldershot
Connaught Plans (WO78/3154)
Built in 1896 -1898, as an isolation hospital with four pavilion wards. It was named after the Duke of Connaught, Commander of Aldershot District. During the Great War, it is believed to have been able to provide over a 1000 medical beds and approximately 600 of these were used for treating infectious disease and mental health cases. The remaining became general beds used for non-surgical cases. I believe the hospital closed in 1948 and then became Connaught barracks, home of the RADC until closure around 1973. It has since been demolished.
